Five Minute Friday: Comfort

posted in: Writing | 2

I’m back with a Five Minute Friday. Giving myself five minutes and only five minutes to write about the weekly prompt. This week’s topic is Comfort.

five minute friday

Five minutes on the clock…and….go!

The first thing that pops into my head when I’m asked about “comfort” is my bed. The feeling of snuggling down under the covers, into soft sheets after a long day. Laying back with a book and my bed side lamp illuminating my side of the room. Those things bring me comfort.

But the more I think about it, the more I realize that comfort to me is my entire home. The creak of the screen door opening to the back yard. The blue paint in the living room and the dark olive green in the master bedroom. The sound of the garage door opening means Dear Husband is home and that always makes me feel good. The smell of something baking in the oven or sitting with a cup of hot tea at my kitchen table. Hearing Addison practice piano or the jingle jangle of Conan’s dog leash as he follows me around.

All of these colors, textures, smells, and sounds are home to me and give me the most comfort.

I hope I’ve made this house a home where my family feels safe and wants to be. I hope it is a quiet place of rest and peace and a place they want to come back to after being away.

Times Up.

What do you think of when I say the word comfort?

Love all your images of “home.” I, too, hope that as my kids grow and strike out on their own, they’ll have a sense of comfort when they come home that isn’t quite like anywhere else in the world. I’m so glad so many of us #ftlwriters are linking up here now! I love keeping up with all your words! xoxo

What a lovely post. I hope I’ve made my home a place of comfort for my family as well. I think I have since they all love coming home and spending time here. And there’s the one who doesn’t seem to want to go back out into the world again and give me back my empty nest. Wait, did I make home TOO comfortable? 🙂
