Bananas Foster

Bananas Foster

Yesterday was a huge dinner fail.  I tried to make a sausage, kale and gnocchi soup in the crock pot.  I actually wanted to use frozen tortellini but Sprouts didn’t have any so I opted for frozen gnocchi instead.  The gnocchi was gummy, tasteless and discussing.  Sprouts, I love ya but go back to the drawing board on those frozen gnocchi. Blech.  I scooped all the gnocchi out and added rigatoni instead.  It was tolerable.

I made it up to all involved by making bananas foster.  It’s soooooooo easy and sooooooo delish.  Pioneer Woman made bananas foster on her show a few weeks ago.  I don’t want to sound like a know-it-all but she was missing a key ingredient.  Creme de Banana liqueur.  I’m just saying, someone let P-Dub know that she needs to adjust her recipe.

This is so ridiculously easy, you’ll wonder why you’re not eating this every night.

Ingredients:

1/2 stick butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
splash of vanilla extract
1/2 cup Captain Morgan spiced rum
1/2 cup Creme de Banana
Vanilla ice cream

In a heavy skillet melt butter, add brown sugar and vanilla.  Stir to combine.  Quickly add rum and combine until brown sugar is dissolved.  Add Creme de Banana and light on fire.  You’re family and guests will be impressed.

Serve over ice cream.

This was the first time I had ever lit this recipe on fire.  I was always too nervous in the past, afraid that I would light more than just liquor on fire.  BFF was over and gave me the confidence I needed to go for the pyrotechnics.  Dear Husband grabbed the phone to record the momentous occasion.  Thankfully the flame stayed in the skillet.  Here you go.

There is nothing quite like an iron skillet to fulfill the “heavy skillet” role. Plus, they just are awesome to use and cook with in the kitchen!! Good job on the BF!

Yum! That looks very impressive. I used to do flaming shots in college, but that was a long time ago!
