A Thrill Of Hope For A Weary Heart

thrill of hope

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices. For yonder breaks, the new and glorious morn.

This verse from O Holy Night is one of my favorite phrases in all of the music that the Christmas season has to offer. One could easily substitute the word “world” for “heart”. This seemingly insignificant word change turns this beloved song into something even more personal because I must admit; my heart has been weary as of late.

In times of trouble and unrest, be it personally, nationally, or globally, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and weary. We seem to be drowning in bad news and a feeling of helplessness can take over along with an attitude of despair and longing to give up. But it is in the midst of the darkest times and hardest moments that we can find hope.

Without hope, all would be lost but we can rest our weary hearts and minds in the knowledge that hope has been with us all along. Hope came to us in the form of an infant 2000 years ago and has been thrilling our hearts ever since. Christ came to bring hope, to show us a new way of living, to remind us of who we really are.

[Tweet “The sun will always, always rise in the morning and with it, renewed hope.”]

The sun will always, always rise in the morning and with it, renewed hope. Each new sunrise is a reminder that no matter how dark the night, light is always right behind it. May we let Christ be our light to warm our weary hearts, to renew our hope that his love will always trump evil, to light a path through these dark valleys. May our weary hearts and our weary world rejoice in the promise of his love and hope.
