This past year I have become obsessed with cutting out box tops.
If you’re the parent of a school age child then you probably know what I’m talking about. The little Box Top logo on your box of Cheerios, granola bars, whatever. For every Box Top turned in the school receives 10 cents. It may not sound like much but it adds up.
I’ve been saving my box tops since September, 2010 when Addison started Kindergarten. This week we are turning in 111 box tops.
Here’s all 111 of my box tops.
That equals $11.10 for the school. Doesn’t sound like much until you add it to all the other box tops. Lets say there are approximately 500 families at Addison’s school. If they all clipped box tops as religiously as I do that comes out to $5,550 for the year. That’s free money people. In the grand scheme of things it may not be a ton of money but it’s better than a stick in the eye.
If you don’t have school age children you’re probably thinking this doesn’t apply to me. Wait! It does. Let’s assume an average mom reading this has 3 years to go until precious little one reaches Kindergarten. I averaged 14 box tops a month and I think a regular household could too. In the next three years our average mom has collected 504 box tops! Can you imagine the look on the Kindergarten teacher’s face when a baggie with 504 box tops is handed over on the first day of school? That alone is worth it.
If you don’t have kids I bet you know some. This isn’t Rocket Science…it’s free money people!
