10 things I DON’T want to know about you on Facebook

posted in: Random Stuff | 8

There seems to be a trend going out there of users rebelling against Facebook.  People are getting a little tired of the TMI and politics and over posting and whatnot (or maybe it’s just Dear Husband who is raging against the machine and making me think everybody is too).  Personally, I like FB.  I like keeping up with friends that I hardly ever get to see and I love seeing their kids grow.  I love how it enables me to easily chit-chat with friends that I do see all the time.  I even love discovering videos that make me laugh.  How else would I have known about Henri le chat?

However, there are a few things that I DON’T want to know and DON’T care about.

1.  I don’t want to know that your 2nd grader is reading at a 5th grade level.  It makes the rest of us moms feel like crap.  I know you’re proud and I’m glad your child is a genius but, honestly, I don’t want to know about it.

2.  I don’t want to know that you just went shopping at Wal-Mart or just drove through Starbucks or just whatever.  Do we really need to share the mundane details of our everyday life?  If you do post about Wal-Mart it better come w/ a hilarious story or pic of the crazies that frequent that fine establishment.

3.  I don’t want to know the mushy details about how much you love your spouse, can’t live without them, can’t wait to snuggle up with them, etc. on their birthday or anniversary.  You love each other, that’s wonderful.  But seriously, get a room.  It’s like watching your parents make out in public.  Don’t need it.

4.  I don’t care that your kid loves spinach and can’t get enough of (fill in the vegetable).  Again, it makes the rest of the parents look and feel like crap.  We already have enough “mom guilt” that our child is deficient in some essential vitamin because of our inability to get them to eat green food and will probably be a hunch back at age 10.  Don’t rub it in.

5.  Those e-cards w/ the funny sayings and old fashioned sketches are cute.  Please keep them to 2, maybe 3 a day.  10 e-cards a day is over kill.

6.  I do not want to see pictures of random hot babes.  First of all it’s objectifying women.  Secondly, I don’t want my news feed clogged w/ pics of big boobies and short shorts.  If that is your bag, fine.  There is something called the privacy of your own home.  “Hot chick of the day” falls into that category, please don’t subject the rest of us to what turns you on.  Gross.

7.  Politics.  Surprisingly, I’m not too concerned about this one.  In about 6 months the chatter will quiet down and we’ll move on to something new to consume our time.  If you do feel the need to express your political views, please do so in a respectful manner.  Remember that just because someone doesn’t agree with your political views doesn’t make them a jackhole.

8.  Stop it with the pictures of dogs who got half their face blown off by a firecracker.  Blegh.  The pictures are disturbing and I don’t want it to be up on the computer when my 8 year old walks by.  Plus, I’m not convinced that those pics are even real.

9.  Unless you know that I actively play Farmville or Cityville or Mobmania or Hoboville or whateverville, please don’t constantly send me invites to play.  If I don’t respond to the invites there is a reason.

10.  I can’t think of another one.  How about you?

I’m sure I have been guilty of all of these things at one time or another (except for maybe the hot chicks and mutilated dogs).  Using Facebook responsibly is a learning process.

Also, if you are sick and tired of seeing a new blog post in your news feed each week, I’m sorry.

Agreed! Some things just don’t need to be shared. I hate people who feel the need to say how much they love a person…tell them in person or via phone. And there’s also the people who update 25 times a day or post pictures of themselves every few minutes. Annoying!

Yes! Couples who seem to talk to each other on FB where everyone can see it! They don’t have cell phones or see each other at the end of the day? What the heck?!

I like Facebook too for similar reasons to yours. However two close relatives of mine have their arguments on Facebook with pointed little digs at each other and sometimes including other members of the family. For example “hiding under mommy’s skirt again…” These are adults I’m talking about! How do you unfriend your brother?

ugg. Why do people want to air their dirty laundry on FB. I say “hide”!

Forwarding this to my husband he is guilty of all of them and when I ask him to stop he says “it’s only you that it bothers.” thanks for the post now I have proof it’s not just me. He has finally stopped the mushy stuff.
