Main Street Christmas Parade

Last Saturday was our town’s Christmas Parade.  Downtown Main Street has maintained that “quaint small town” feel all the while staying vitalized with new restaurants, pubs and shops.  We found a prime parking spot, grabbed a cup of steaming hot cider from the bank that was happily doling it out for free on the corner and settled into the back of the SUV.

For those of you who are all up in arms that “they” are taking the Christ out of Christmas, rest assured that Christ and Christmas ain’t goin’ nowhere.  Don’t worry your pretty little heads about it and keep on signing up for your shift in the live nativity scene at your church.  There is enough holiday cheer to go around for Christians, Jews and Festivus observers alike.  Santa and Jesus love us all equally and I’m sure that Christmas music broadcast 24/7 on the radio from Black Friday to New Year’s Eve isn’t going anywhere.

Back to the parade.  My favorite floats were the Medieval Fair geeks and Star Wars nerds (I say that with the utmost love in my heart for both groups).  Nothing says “Merry Christmas” like Darth Vader in a Santa robe.  Addison had a hard time hiding his smile when he saw the storm trooper.

I especially love how they combined the Ghost Busters car with the Star Wars characters.  Hey, why not.  It’s the magic of Christmas.

Merry Christmas movie house!  Merry Christmas Emporium!  Merry Christmas you wonderful old Building and Loan!

And Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Winter Solstice to you too.
