Love Wins even in a Tornado – Moore Tornado Relief

Pray for Oklahoma

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you know that Oklahoma has experienced two consecutive days of tornadoes.  Shawnee on Sunday and Moore on Monday.  Moore has been absolutely devastated.  Dear Husband and I could hardly tear ourselves from the TV yesterday and watched as the horror unfolded.  We couldn’t believe the level of destruction and watched in disbelief as we saw that nearly the same area that was hit in the 1999 tornado was once again leveled.

We paced and wrung our hands as we worried about a family from our church that was unaccounted for.  Finally around midnight I checked FB again to discover, with great relief, that all four of them were alive.  Their house was completely gone, but they were all okay.

Every single person in this state was glued to our TV’s and were on our knees all Monday afternoon, evening and night.  Then we shook ourselves awake and got to work.

Oklahomans have this uncanny ability to get stuff done when it really needs to happen.  When the going gets tough, Oklahomans spring into action.  We won’t know the extent of the damage for a while but we took ourselves to Wal-Mart and Sams and lit up FB, no questions asked.

It’s times like this when I’m thankful for the power of FB in spreading a message.  Here are just a few things that I’ve seen in the past few hours that have confirmed that love wins.

Kevin Durant

Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant, through his family foundation, pledged $1 million to the American Red Cross disaster relief efforts in Oklahoma on Tuesday.

Chesapeake Energy and Devon Energy have pledge millions of dollars in relief funds for the tornado victims.

McAlister's Deli

Our hearts are broken but our restaurant in Moore is open. We want to do our small part to aid the relief efforts. Please help us spread the word: all police, fire, emergency personnel – anyone assisting with relief & recovery – are invited to pick up a free box lunch at McAlister’s Deli 931 SW 25th St in Moore. We’ve got a meal ready for these brave professionals and volunteers so they can get back to the vital task of helping those in need.

Tornado clean up

This is just a tiny sampling of what people are doing to help those in need.  People are stepping up to help friends and family but also complete strangers.  Moms are cleaning out their kids closets because they have heard of a family with kids the same age as their own children who lost everything.  Monetary donations are pouring in from all over the state and the nation.  Individuals are buying diapers in bulk and taking them to area churches and the Salvation Army.  Millions of dollars in donations coming in from corporations.  Large and small, the outpouring of love is amazing.

Once again, love wins.

Wasn’t there a Mr. Rodgers quote going around after Boston? The same apply here…”Look for the helpers. You will always find people helping.” That is what is going on here. Helpers are coming out of the woodwork.
