Labor Day in Galveston

Apparently Galveston is my mom’s new favorite vacation spot.  We took the boys and joined my parents in Galveston, TX for my mom’s birthday weekend.  I realized while we were there that in the past two years my mom and I have been to Galveston 4 times.  It may not be as pristine as Destin or as lush and romantic as Hawaii but it’s a heck of a lot easier to get to than either of those destinations.

Addison is in love with swimming in the surf while Harry is pretty content to play in the sand.  I taught him how to make a forest of trees by letting wet sand drip from his hands.  We think we saw a shark and I was stung by a jelly fish.  Apparently those two things aren’t all that uncommon for that part of the gulf.  Hummm.

We stayed in a beach house in a newer beach community called Beachtown.  It was aptly named as it’s on the beach.  One night Dear Husband and I took the boys to Pleasure Pier.  It was a pleasure but the prices were not.  They are seriously proud of their rides.  I would describe it as an upscale carnival at amusement park prices.  It was over $100 for all four of us to get in.  With a sharp intake of breath I handed my card over and told myself that this is vacation and it’s the price you pay for family fun.  I will admit that I noticed they were taking their security really seriously and their customer service was great.  Addison was a little too cool for school on the carousel but then was thrilled to ride a log ride with the prospect of getting splashed.  We rode it together and both of us got SOAKED.  I’m not talking a little spray of water, I might as well have jumped in the ocean with my clothes on.  That’s how wet I was and Addison loved it.  I was the only one who wanted to ride the roller coaster so that didn’t happen but I did get the entire fam on the ferris wheel.  It was pretty awesome to see up and down the coast from the tippy top.

On the Strand we visited Col. Bubbies Army Surplus store.  Oddly interesting place, Col. Bubbies.

All in all another fun trip to Galveston.
