A Prayer for Good Friday

Reblogged from The Blue Room:

Holy God,
the hosannas have died away,
the palm branches have turned brittle;

Now, today, there is only this—
each of us,
all of us,
sitting in the darkness,
the hymns of lament in the air,
the mumblings of our own feeble confession,
on this Friday
which we tremble to call Good.

What is good about Good Friday?
What is good about the innocent one nailed to a cross?

April Fool’s! It’s Palm Sunday

A Cheering, Chanting, Dizzy Crowd

A cheering, chanting, dizzy crowd
had stripped the green trees bare,
and hailing Christ as king aloud,
waved branches in the air.

They laid their garments in the road
and spread his path with palms
and vows of lasting love bestowed
with royal hymns and psalms.

When day dimmed down to deepning dark
the crowd began to fade
’til only trampled leaves and bark
were left from the parade.

Lest we be fooled because our hearts
have surged with passing praise,
remind us, God, as this week starts
where Christ has fixed his gaze.

Instead of palms a winding sheet
will have to be unrolled,
a carpet much more fit to greet
the king a cross will hold.

Happy Birthday Harry

Terrible 2′s – Day one

Harry started off the day with a bang.  After breakfast I found him in Addison’s room with half a bottle of shampoo dumped on the play table.  Addison was able to look on the bright side and commented on how nice his room smelled now.  Now there’s a kid who sees a silver lining.

After I cleaned up the table and soapy Quadrilla I got myself dressed and prepared to spend a morning out on the town with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law.  She’s newly engaged and has the joy of registering for dishes, Kitchen Aid mixers, china, stem wear, towels, skillets, etc.  Helping other people shop for these things warms my heart.  There’s nothing better than knowing people who love you are going to shower you with amazing gifts…all because you found the man of your dreams.  It took me back.  But I digress.  Just as I was about to head out I found this…

How could you be mad at a face like that?  Apparently I left the pantry door open and left to his own devises he found a giant chocolate bar reserved for s’mores.

After dinner we had pudding cake and ice cream.  Pudding cake, you ask?  Bake a box cake, while still warm poke holes in it with the end of a wooden spoon.  Mix 4 cups of milk and two packages of vanilla instant jell-o pudding and pour all over.  So simple.  So satisfying.

Addison decided that he needed to make a horn to announce guests as they entered the house (guests being our family as I just don’t have it in me to have a real little kid party for a toddler).  I give you…the ‘Horny Horn’

Your welcome and Happy New Year.

DIY Ministry

I just learned about DIY Ministry.  It offers online support and workshops for bloggers who are trying to make the most out of their blog.  Have you heard of it, used it, benefited from it?  I’m curious.

Why date night is crucial

It’s really easy to get caught up in the day to day. It’s easy to get consumed with the kids, the job, the mortgage and bills. It’s easy to forget that the other adult you’re living with is someone that you have a lot in common with and love deeply.

This is why date night is crucial in a marriage. (more…)

This is a test…

As I type the baby is crying from the other room. What, Baby Einstein isn’t good enough for you?! Needless to say this will be short. I’m still trying to figure this blogging thing out. I know how to email, text, take and receive calls. All else will have to be learned as we go. Sooooooo, here we go.
